6. Abstract :

Modern neuroscience technologies are increasingly generating rich and dynamic data that will provide us an unprecedented opportunity to understand how the brain works. However, our ability to exploit this rich data to get the dynamic pictures of the brain is often limited by the lack of appropriate analysis methods. In this talk, I will present my research efforts to address some challenges for analyzing neuroscience data. Especially, I developed a functional network analysis method to demonstrate a large-scale motor cortical neurons in non-human primates spatially coordinated their spiking activity in an interesting manner, and this organized spiking pattern contained task-relevant information. This finding may have some implications for cortically controlled brain-machine interface. In addition, motivated by how our brain coordinates information in a fast time scale, I will also consider how we can track the evolution of biological neural networks.
